Donald Wakeman

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 22, 2022 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. A visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private family burial will follow the service at the Otho Cemetery with military rites provided by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and the VFW Post 1856.

Don is survived by his wife Linda (Dahl) Wakeman; children Amanda (John Sweazey) Wakeman and Joseph (Kristin) Wakeman; grand and great grandchildren Stephanie (Gerod) Hutchinson, Nicole Sweazey, Kinley and Garner Hutchinson, Zoey and Lewis Wakeman; and brother John “Joe” Wakeman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Evelyn (Powers) Wakeman and grandson Jason Sweazey.

Don was born October 18, 1947 in Fort Dodge. He served in the Air National Guard from 1967 – 1983. He was proud to have worked for Frigidaire, Land O’Lakes and most recently Fort Dodge Transmission. Don’s favorite pastime was golfing. He loved to drive and attend sporting events, especially ones where his grandkids were playing. His other favorites included doing yard work, anything revolving around farming, and tinkering on projects even though he was “accident prone”, to put it mildly. Don was always willing to lend a hand but most of all his life was about his family and spending time with them and the granddogs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to family discretion.
