Michael “Mike” Carlson, 59, of Stratford passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport. A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Stratford Lutheran Church. Graveside services will follow visitation at 4:30 p.m. at the South Marion Cemetery, southeast of Stratford. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Michael Keith Carlson, son of Keith R. and Martha J. (Carlstedt) Carlson, was born September 3, 1962 in Emmetsburg. He attended schools in Belmond, Gilbert and graduated from Stratford Community Schools in 1981. Mike attended DMACC and Iowa State University. He enjoyed farming and raising corn, beans, and hogs. He joined H&R Block in Webster City – a career he followed for 30 years. There he prepared hundreds of tax returns for many clients, some of whom became lifelong friends.
He was a member and officer of Stratford JCs and Stratford Lion’s Club. Both organizations gave him an opportunity to share with others and improve the community of Stratford. Mike loved animals, especially his black labrador dog, Wilma. He loved to hunt, do woodworking and was an avid ISU fan. His favorite possession was his 1969 yellow Camaro. He proudly participated in the Cruise to the Woods for the last 25 years. Mike regularly watched NASCAR races on Friday, Saturday and Sundays and knew all the winners for the last 15 years. Along with his father and brother, they built his three-bedroom home where he resided.
Mike is survived by his father, Ketih R. Carlson of Stratford; brother, Douglas (Sheila) Carlson of Stratford; nephew, Barrent (Jessica); nieces, Koryne (Justin) and Ella; his adopted brother, Felipe (Laura) Rivelles of Mexico City and his faithful dog, Wilma.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha J. Carlson in 2017.
