JOHN MERZ
John Merz, 77, of Fort Dodge died on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at his home in Fort Dodge, IA. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
John Merz, the son of Frank Sr. and Evelyn (Hart) Merz, was born on August 29, 1942 in Williams, IA. He graduated from Williams High School in 1960. John Merz was united in marriage to Janice Smith on June 11, 1966 at Williams Methodist Church. John worked for 30 years at the Holiday Station Stores and 20 years at Walmart. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes. John especially enjoyed NASCAR, including Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jr. He loved spending quality time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Janice; his children, Candace Merz and Nathan (Tara) Merz; his grandchildren, Kailee, Kaleb, Hannah, Cassandra, Laura, and Sarah; his brother, Frank (Joan) Merz Jr.; and his sisters-in-law, Judy (Mike) Kunz and Sherry Merz.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Evelyn; his brother, George; his sisters, Jane and three others; his niece, Wendy; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
