Fly High Memorial raises $1,200 for Logan Baldwin scholarship fund

The Tanner’s Choice Award went to a truck owned by Kaden Peterson. Funds raised by the event will go to the Logan Baldwin Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Fly High Memorial to benefit the Logan Baldwin Memorial Scholarship Fund raised $1,200 through its late September event in the Appliance Plus parking lot.

“We had around $1,200 donated to the scholarship fund that is overseen by Enhance Hamilton County Foundation,” Bill Baldwin said. “Around 40 vehicles participated during the show. Food was provided that consisted of chips and pork burgers donated by Webster City Custom Meats.

The Tanner’s Choice Award went to a truck owned by Kaden Peterson, who lives near Iowa Falls, Baldwin said.

Awards were also given for the top three Ford, Dodge and Chevy trucks. Also, a few donated items from Napa Auto were given to participants, he said.

The car and truck show and cruise took place September 20.

It raised money in memory of Logan Baldwin, a Webster City High School 16-year-old who was driving a farm tractor on White Fox Road in Hamilton County that was rear-ended by another vehicle. The impact sent Baldwin’s tractor into a ditch where it overturned.

Baldwin was thrown from the tractor and died at the scene from his injuries.

The accident happened earlier this year.

This summer, the Logan Baldwin Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by his family to celebrate his life and his legacy.

According to the media release that accompanied the announcement of the scholarship fund, “at 16, he had already cultivated a deep love for agriculture. He was exploring a career in the trades, particularly welding, and found joy in hands-on work that challenged him and fueled his curiosity. His life was cut short in an accident. The scholarship will now be part of his legacy.”

Baldwin attended Webster City schools and was a sophomore when he passed, according to his obituary. He was active in the Webster City FFA, Webster City Boy Scouts, several RC Clubs including Traction City and White Fox RC Speedway.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating Webster City High School senior(s) planning to attend a trade school or community college in fields such as agriculture, auto/diesel technology, electrical, plumbing, or welding careers.

Community members who wish to honor Logan and help grow the fund can do so in a variety of ways: Cash gifts — online, check, wire/ACH transfer; appreciated stock, mutual funds or bonds; qualified charitable distributions from IRAs; or gifts of grain or land.
