Kendall Young Library has adult programs in October

Kendall Young Library will be having adult programs throughout the month of October. Here’s a list:

Morbid Curiosities — An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe. This is an evening of storytelling by Darrin Crow. He will bring life to Morbid Curiosities — An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe. Storytelling begins at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 13.

Iowa storyteller Crow will bring Gothic horror master Edgar Allan Poe to life in “Morbid Curiosities — An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe.” Crow tells powerful, imaginative, engaging stories that keep audiences on the edge of their seats and stick with them long after the tale ends. Adult Book Clubs — Kendall Young Library invites you to join the All Kendall Young Library Reads event for the October Adult Book clubs. This month, both the Afternoon Book Club and the Evening Book Club will be reading “The Good Neighbor: The Life and Work of Fred Rogers,” by Maxwell King. Books are available at the adult checkout. The Afternoon Book Club will meet on Tuesday, October 14, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and the Evening Book Club will meet on Wednesday, October 8, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Books & Bourbon Silent Book Club — Kendall Young Library is working with Wildcat Distilling Co. to offer patrons a Silent Book Club. Adults are invited to gather at Wildcat Distilling Co. on Thursday, October 16, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Bring a book, grab a drink, and enjoy an introvert happy hour. This event will be held at Wildcat Distilling Co., 626 Second Street, Webster City, and is always the third Thursday of each month.

Adult DIY — Kendall Young Library will host an Adult DIY of cupcake decorating on Tuesday, October 28, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Each participant will have the opportunity to hear some tips and tricks to decorating the perfect cupcake. This event is free and does not require registration.

Fiber Arts Gathering — On Thursday, October 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Kendall Young Library will host a time to work on your favorite fiber arts project. There are patrons available who can help if you want to start learning how to crochet. All ages 16 and over are invited to come and some supplies will be available. There is no registration required.

SPICE Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to add some spice to your life with the KYL Spice of the Month Club. This month Cardamom is featured, beginning Friday, October 3. Samples will be available throughout the month while supplies last.

Kendall Young Library will host teen events

Kendall Young Library will host a variety of teen events throughout October. Here’s a list:

Teen Lounge — Patrons in sixth-12th grade are invited each Tuesday in October from 3:30 to 5 p.m. to join special activities, video games, snacks, crafts, and board games. This time and place is a come-and-go style event.

Homeschool TECH BUILD — Students will have time to work on a Wiggle Bot on Thursday, October 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. where they can build and modify their project. This is designed for youth in second-12th grade and will be held each month in the teen area. Parent participation is encouraged.

Early Out Movies — Kids of all ages are invited to enjoy a movie at KYL on Tuesday, October 28 — “Toy Story 4” and Thursday, October 30 — “Jumanji” at 1:30 p.m. These days have an early release at Webster City Community Schools. Popcorn will be provided.

There’s something for children at KYL in October

Kendall Young Library Children’s Department will host a variety of events in October. Here’s a list:

Tales Around the Town — Kendall Young Library, along with local Webster City businesses, will take storytime on the road. Each week families are invited to meet at a designated location, hear a story and experience the host location. There is no registration required. Just follow the signs.

October 6 — West Twin Park, 1100 Superior Street — 5:30 p.m.

October 13 — Kendall Young Park, 600 Kendall Young Road — 5:30 p.m.

October 20 — The Cat Hut, 1118 Second Street — 5:30 p.m.

October 27 — Kendall Young Library, 1201 Willson Avenue — 5:30 p.m.

Wild Things (TK-second) will meet on Tuesdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in October. This time will offer a variety of stories and activities each week.

Fuzzy Ducklings (under 3 years) will meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in October. This is a parent/child experience.

Hungry Caterpillars (3- and 4-year-old preschool) will meet on Thursday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in October.

Tween’s Time (third – fifth grade) will meet on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in October. Explore crafts, STEM, and cooking.

Friday Cookies, Scoops & Books — Drop in at the children’s department on Fridays (October 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31) between 3:30 and 5 p.m. for an afternoon snack as you pick up some books for the weekend. This is a come-and-go event. Plan to wear your costume on the 31st.
