Post 191, HC Veterans, WCHS will host Veterans Day meal Friday

Veterans will be honored in multiple events in Hamilton County, both before and after Veterans Day, which lands on Saturday this year.

In Webster City, veterans are encouraged to share a meal Friday, November 10, at the Webster City High School competition gym, 1001 Lynx Ave., Webster City.

Anyone wishing to dine needs to RSVP today by calling 641-780-2814.

The meal is pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a dinner roll and ice cream. It is being prepared by American Legion Post 191 and the Webster City High School home economics students. The luncheon is sponsored by Iowa Select Farms.

The meal will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Before the meal, the community is welcome to attend the Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony at the Webster City Middle School, 1101 Des Moines St., Webster City.

Doors to that event open at 10:30 a.m.; the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m.

At 1 p.m. on Friday, after the pork loin meal at the high school, Webster City High School will host a Veteran’s Day program “Honoring all those who have served.”

Anyone who wishes may attend this program, which will be held in the competition gym. The doors open at 12:30 p.m. for this event. Guests are asked to enter through the doors on the west side of the gym.

These events are being presented in a partnership between Webster City Community Schools, American Legion Post 191 and Hamilton County Veterans Affairs.

On Saturday, November 11, Hamilton County Republicans will dish up chili at the Stanhope Community Center, 600 Main St., Stanhope. The doors open at 11 a.m. with the program set to start at noon.

Speakers at this Chili Feed & Silent Auction include U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Tim Scott, Iowa House Majority Whip Henry Stone, State Senator Dennis Guth, and State Representative Shannon Latham.

There is no cost to attend, but freewill donations will be accepted.

On Monday, South Hamilton High School will host its Veterans Day program.

The program begins at 9 a.m. at the high school, 315 Division St., Jewell. The event is in the high school gym.
