Search warrant sought blood sample from driver in fatal crash
Beightol, of Webster City, died September 2
A Webster City man died Saturday from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident earlier that morning on the north edge of Webster City, according to a media report by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
Kevin Beightol, 48, died after being transported to an undisclosed Des Moines hospital by air ambulance following a pickup crash at the intersection of north Des Moines Street in Webster City and 210th Street, which is locally known as the Annetta Woods blacktop.
Beightol was a passenger in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado being driven by Dustin Humlicek, 39, also of Webster City, the sheriff’s office reported.
Humlicek called 911 to report the accident, the report states. He told authorities he was driving the pickup northbound on Des Moines Street and didn’t stop for the stop sign at 210th Street. The pickup went into the north ditch and ended up in a residential yard.
Humileck’s 911 call was logged at 3:03 a.m. September 2.
Both men were transported to Van Diest Medical Center by ambulance before being taken by individual air ambulances to Des Moines hospitals.
Beightol died later that day from his injuries.
A search warrant served on Humlicek at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines sought a blood sample.
The request for the search warrant said Humlicek was asked for a blood sample while still in Hamilton County, but would not respond to the request.
“The passengers (sic) injuries were due to the defendants (sic) driving behavior that resulted from a single vehicle accident,” the search warrant request stated. “Observed multiple alcoholic beverages partially drank (sic) inside the vehicle.”
The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending, according to the sheriff’s report.
Assisting the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was the Webster City Police Department, Webster City Fire Department, Van Diest Medical Center Ambulance, Iowa state Patrol, and the Polk County Medical Examiner.
