Imaginations on the loose!

The Daily Freeman-Journal, Webster City Middle School and several local businesses joined forces recently for the “Design An Ad” contest, a newspaper in education activity designed as a project for fifth and sixth grade students.
Above, students from Krystal Laughlin’s fifth grade class line up in front of one of American Sanitation’s trucks, which displayed the ads. Brad Schmidt of American Sanitation came up with the idea to place the ads on the truck.
Tiffany Noriega was presented with a gift basket, courtesy of North Central Turf. Aliyah Im (not pictured) received a gift card from Dairy Queen.
For the project, a business is matched with a fifth or sixth grade class, where each student was assigned to design an ad for the participating business. It is a return of sorts, as it was the first time that the DFJ conducted the contest since 2020.
