Area churches prepare for Christmas

Houses of worship get creative to spread the joy and wonder of the holiday season during a pandemic

Christmas is nearly here and for many area churches, finding ways to provide worship and fellowship opportunities in a safe and socially-distanced manner during the pandemic has been challenging.

Many have chosen to gather in smaller numbers, while others have held outdoor worship services. Many others have used Facebook, YouTube and other virtual platforms to spread the word of God while providing comfort and support to isolated congregation members.This Christmas season, area churches have are offering many creative ways to share the in the joy of the season.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 1229 Kathy Lane in Webster City, will broadcast a Christmas Eve service at 3 p.m. on KQWC Radio. They will also hold a drive-in Christmas Eve in the church parking lot at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Park in the south parking lot and tune your car radio to 88.7 FM or go to Trinity’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/c/TLCWebsterCity to join online. The church will also broadcast a Christmas Eve service at 11 p.m. on the YouTube channel.

On Sunday, Dec. 27, Trinity will have TLC Lessons and Carols Worship service at 9:30 a.m. The service will be broadcast on the YouTube channel.

Asbury United Methodist Church, 921 Des Moines St., Webster City, will hold a drive-in Christmas Eve worship service at 5:30 p.m. in the Webster City High School parking lot.

Webster City Church of Christ, 900 Des Moines St., Webster City, will hold a Christmas Eve Candlelight Services “Come to Worship.” The service will be held inside the church at 6 p.m. with masks mandatory to attend. A second service will be held outside the church at 7:30 p.m. with masks optional. Church officials said both services would be brief.

St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1000 Des Moines St., Webster City, will hold a 4 p.m. Christmas Eve mass on Dec. 24. There will also be a 10 a.m. mass on Christmas Day.

St. Paul Lutheran, 1005 Beach St., Webster City will hold Christmas Eve services in the church at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to sign up in the church office or call the office at 832-3043. A New Year’s Eve service with communion Thursday, Dec. 31 at 7 p.m. is also planned.

Faith United Methodist Church, 2020 Superior St., Webster City, will broadcast a virtual Christmas Eve service on the church Facebook page, www.facebook.com/faithUMCWC

The Community Church of Kamrar, 2351 280th St., will hold a Candlelight Christmas Eve service with community will be held at 9 p.m. on Dec. 24. St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williams, will hold Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. at the church on Dec. 24.

St. Mary Catholic Church in Williams will hold an 8 p.m. Christmas Eve mass.

Elim Lutheran Church, Randall, will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service will be held Dec. 24 at 5:30 p.m. The church will also have a Hymn Sing on Sunday, Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m.
