JEWELL — On Sunday afternoon, the South Hamilton school invited the public to view the final results of a remodeling project on the South Hamilton middle/high school building.
The $9.2 million project took two years to complete, with one of the highlights an update and renovation of the three science rooms to better afford a 21st century learning environment. New electrical, lighting and HVAC systems were installed throughout the building, and the building offices, rotunda, and media center were also renovated. Another highlight of the project was the construction of an addition that houses a new auditorium atrium/ lobby/welcome reception area.
Also, in addition to other improvements to the building, the existing auditorium was renovated, including the addition of a new sound/lighting control room. Another addition was constructed to house the work space for the athletic director, coaches, referees, and laundry facilities.
A scope of the project was shared at a brief program in the auditorium, when Ken Howard, South Hamilton superintendent welcomed those attending. South Hamilton middle/high school principal thanks a list of individuals for their dedication and patience during the project. Classes and activities were held in the building throughout the renovation.
Joely Swenson, newly elected school board president, told Sunday’s visitors, “Once you see this building now, you will understand how amazing the school is.”
