Legacy Learning Boone River Valley welcomed new Artist in Residence, Diane Kunzler, to Webster City with a reception at the Hickory Cabin on Sunday afternoon.

Kunzler is the first artist in a series to work at the cabin. She will be working at Briggs Woods from March 13 through 17 at the cabin.

“Mo invited me to come up here and be the first Artist in Residence for Legacy Learning and I was thrilled to do it,” said Kunzler.

Kunzler has also been an Artist in Residence for the national parks at the Herbert Hoover site and is excited to work outside of Webster City.

“I really enjoy interaction with people and just the time to focus on my work,” said Kunzler.

Kunzler’s time spent on her personal work will be focused on pastels. She is excited to work in Briggs Woods with the lake and nature-filled landscape.

“The work I do is really nature-focused, so this is a great place to do it,” Kunzler said.

Kunzler will be working with students on Tuesday and Thursday. The students will also be provided with a scholarship to attend the Saturday public workshop.

“We’ll be doing some different kinds of mixed media types of things: paintings, collaging things,” said Kunzler.

The public is welcome to come interact with Kunzler on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5 – 7 p.m.

“I’m really excited to do this,” Kunzler said. “This will be a great opportunity to kind of back away from everything at home and not be distracted and just get some good work done.”

There will also be a shared public campfire each evening after 7 p.m. also open to the public at no charge.
