Happy singing

WC singers to perform with FD Chorale society

In celebration of returning to live performances, Fort Dodge Choral will present “I Sing Because I’m Happy” at 3 pm on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Grace Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge. Webster City residents Mark Andrew, Travis Balt, Stephanie Hill, Al Yungclas and Karin Yungclas are members of the choir. Balt will be a featured soloist in the performance.

Conductor Bruce Perry of Sac City has chosen a program that shares the joy of singing. Spirituals and familiar hymn texts combine with great works by G. F. Handel, Gerald Finzi, and Norman Dello Joio to create a rousing celebration of singing together.

“For those who live for live music, COVID was a nightmare. After more than a year away from singing, the group has returned with a renewed energy that is truly remarkable. The singers are thrilled to share their joy with the community,” Perry said.

Fort Dodge Choral Society unites performers from a six-county area to bring great music to life. As one of the oldest community groups in Iowa dedicated to the vocal art, the group has a long tradition of sharing the joy of music with regional audiences.

The concert, located at 211 S. 9th Street, Fort Dodge, is open to the public. Admission is available at the door or by season membership. All students are admitted free. For more information, visit FDChoralSociety.org.
