Callahan captures gold for Lynx track

CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City boys track and field team put a cap on the regular season here last Thursday night at the North Central Conference meet. Justin Callahan led the way for the Lynx, who finished fifth overall. Algona claimed team honors followed by Clear Lake and Humboldt. FORT DODGE — The Webster City boys tennis team picked up a fifth-place individual finish from Nathan Wardell here Wednesday at the North Central Conference meet. Wardell, a junior, finished his day 4-1, capped off by an 8-4 victory over No. 3 seed Brayden Moestchen of Iowa Falls-Alden in the placement match. IOWA CITY — Former South Hamilton standout Austin Busch was honored during the annual Golden Herkys here on Tuesday night. Busch, a redshirt sophomore with the Iowa track and field program, was named men’s Hawkeye of the year. Others honored include Stephen Buchanan II, Lucy Olsen, Sydney Affolter, Kaleb Johnson and Kylie Feuerbach. Along with being a leader on the field, Busch shines in the classroom and the community. The Webster City boys and girls track teams will take part in the North Central Conference meet on Thursday. The boys head to Clear Lake, with the girls’ meet in Iowa Falls. Action begins at 5 p.m. Joining the Lynx will be Algona, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Humboldt, Iowa Falls-Alden, Clear Lake and St. Edmond.
