South Hamilton can’t slow GV Christian

JEWELL — The South Hamilton boys dropped a 67-46 decision to Grand View Christian here on Monday.

A quick start put the Thunder (11-9 overall) in prime position to run away with a win, but the Hawks (2-18) battled back from a 14-point first quarter deficit to get within 26-18. Eight straight points by GVC to end the second quarter made the hill a steep one to climb, though.

“We started slow but battled back,” SH head coach Jay Heeren said. “Costly turnovers and a rough couple of minutes caught up to us. We struggled offensively getting into a rhythm and moving once things broke down.

“I was happy with our defensive effort and communication. They just knocked down some big shots.”

Jackson Olmstead paced the Hawks with 14 points, with Luke Martensen adding 10 and Sam Koehnk contributed nine.

Senior Brayden Hoben paced the Thunder with 23 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks.

The South Hamilton girls came up short, 62-35. GVC improved to 15-5 overall. The Hawks are now 8-12.

Starting at $3.46/week.
