CLARION — The Webster City boys basketball squad was tipped late by Clarion-Goldifeld/Dows here on Friday, 56-55.

Chaz Lane gave the Cowboys the win with a go-ahead basket in overtime with 10 seconds remaining.

Alex Staley paced the Lynx with 16 points. Coyce Bertran added 12 and Jaxon Griffith finished with 11 — thanks in large part to making a trifecta of three-point baskets.

Griffith had four assists and four steals as well.

Webster City erased all of a 19-point fourth-quarter deficit to force the extra stanza, putting 28 points on the board in the final frame alone during a furious comeback attempt.

“I thought the guys played well enough to win, but sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce your way,” WCHS head coach Brett Ratcliff said. “We got down big in the first half, then clawed our way back to tie and take the lead late in the fourth quarter and overtime.

“We need to learn to put together four quarters of (complete) basketball. It’s not going to get any easier (schedule-wise), but the guys are hungry and ready to compete.”

Webster City is at Fort Dodge to play No. 4 (Class 1A) St. Edmond on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
