Webster City opens season on the mat
GRIMES — The Webster City boys wrestling team was in action here Saturday at the Andy Davidson Mustang Invitational hosted by Dallas Center-Grimes.
The Lynx finished seventh overall in the 11-team field, as the host Mustangs were first ahead of Johnston and Adel-ADM.
Eli Estlund and Cody Elliott led the way for Webster City, as both finished second overall. Estlund was the 190-pound runner-up while Elliott scored silver at 215 pounds.
Ty Bingham and Gavin Wynkoop each went 2-1 to place third, Jaysen Vankham was sixth with a fall and Sidney Walker finished eighth for the Lynx.
After receiving an opening round bye, Estlund pinned Levi Sickels of Des Moines East in just 40 seconds. He followed that up with a 44-second pin of Jackson Hasty from Adel-ADM before falling to Kellen Wegner of Dallas Center-Grimes in the finals.
Elliott also earned a bye, rattling off a fall vs. Caden Hinders of Dallas Center-Grimes and a major decision vs. Nolan Parrish from Dallas Center-Grimes to reach the finals. He fell to Ethan Miller of Urbandale, 4-2.
Webster City will host Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Hampton-Dumont/CAL in North Central Conference action on Thursday.
