Webster City, Algona square off as Lynx host Senior Night

The Webster City football team will honor the senior players as they try to top a North Central Conference rival.

The Lynx welcome in Algona for Senior Night here Friday, with kickoff beginning at 7 p.m.

Webster City (2-5 overall, 1-2 in the district) will honor 12th-graders Dawson Bertran, Aiden Hrnicek, Jamey Stansfield, Gavin Wynkoop, Jaxon Griffith, Carter Mickelson, Adison Punkham, Cody Elliott Jr., Beau Nohrenberg, Cael Alexander, Eli Estlund, Nate Beaulieu and Cole Nohrenberg.

Hrnicek and Griffith have been the offensive leaders throughout the year for head coach Andy Brim. Hrnicek has thrown for 160 yards and ran for 592, scoring eight touchdowns on the ground.

Griffith has 579 yards rushing with five TDs, adding 145 yards and two scores in the air. Kaleb Hansen has added 421 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The Webster City defense is anchored by Griffith, junior Grant Arends, Hrnicek, junior Coyce Bertran and Mickelson. Griffith has 31 tackles. Arends has 7.5 tackles for loss and five interceptions.

After knocking off Humboldt, the Lynx — who have played one of the tougher schedules in the entire state — have dropped back-to-back games to No. 4 Sioux City Heelan and fifth-ranked Sioux Center.

Algona (3-4, 0-3) is led by Nathan Manske, as the junior has thrown for 1,021 yards and rushed for 447 with eight TDs. William Weichert has 705 yards on the ground and Tate Garman has caught 27 passes for 486 with three scores.

The Bulldogs have lost three in a row to Sioux Center, No. 13 Humboldt and MOC-Floyd Valley.

In the latest RPI, Webster City is No. 22 and Algona one spot behind at No. 23. Since 2008, the Lynx lead the series, 8-4, with the Bulldogs winning three of the last four, including a 28-21 decision last season.
