The Webster City football team came up short in a back-and-forth affair vs. Sioux Center here last Friday night, 42-28.

The Lynx (2-4 overall, 1-1 in district) were hurt by a big play, as both Cody Sandbulte and Joseph Molina had 80-yard touchdowns for the Warriors (5-1, 1-1).

Aiden Hrnicek ran for 188 yards and scored four times to lead Webster City, adding 50 yards passing. Jaxon Griffith added 85 yards on the ground and 44 yards in the air while Kaleb Hansen finished with 34 yards rushing, adding a catch.

Grant Arends recorded two tackles for loss, Boston Farley had one and Carter Mickelson recovered a fumble. Israel Torres was 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts.

“The offensive line did a good job of blocking the first level and Aiden was able to be really physical running the ball in the second level,” WCHS head coach Andy Brim said. “I thought our kids played hard and really battled for four quarters against a really athletic Sioux Center team.”

For Sioux Center, Ezra Hibma completed 10 of 15 for 235 yards with four touchdowns, Sandbulte ran for 163 yards and the long score, and Molina had three receptions for 125 yards with two touchdowns while rushing for 70 yards and a third TD.

As a team, the Warriors piled up 500 yards of total offense.

Sioux Center came into the game having dropped a 28-15 decision to Bishop Heelan in the district opener. That is the next opponent for the Lynx, as they travel to Sioux City this Friday night.
