Hawks drop scorefest with Pocahontas Area

POCAHONTAS — The South Hamilton football team dropped a shootout to Pocahontas Area here last Friday night, 43-36.

The Hawks took an early lead and erased a 15-point deficit in the third, going back up in the fourth, 36-29. The Indians, though, scored the game-winning points with nine seconds left to secure the district win.

Wyatt Gelder had a big game, rushing 27 times for 194 yards with three touchdowns, as Jose Babcock added 65 yards on the ground and two more scores. Maddux Becker ran for 89 yards, as South Hamilton had 349 yards rushing as a team.

Garrett Johnson caught a 30-yard pass from Babcock, who picked off a pass on defense. Parker Stuck led the Hawk defense with six tackles.

Gelder also converted three two-point attempts.

South Hamilton returns to the field this Friday night when they host Emmetsburg at Mike Penning Athletic Complex and Taylor Field.
