Callahan, Lynx win in Hampton
HAMPTON — Justin Callahan sprinted to a race title and the Webster City boys cross country team followed last Thursday at the Bulldog Invitational.
Callahan clocked a winning time of 17:44 to best the field by over 16 seconds, leading the Lynx to team gold in the process over West Fork. Osage was third followed by Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Central Springs and Belmond-Klemme.
“Solid performance from both teams,” WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. “We are on the home stretch with only a few weeks left in the season. I am proud of the way we competed, but now we will look to get healthy so we can finish the season strong.”
Gabe Thumma was third for Webster City in 18:34, as Aidan Wardell made it three in the Top-5 by placing fifth. Wardell had a time of 19:22.
Jack Barner was seventh in 19:27, Kyzer Zinnel placed 12th in 20:01 and Kaleb Draeger was 13th in 20:02. Arlen Lake finished 17th, Daniel Murillo-Delfin was 19th, Jordan Betts placed 22nd and Colten Betts was 28th.
Adding strong runs for the Lynx were Tariq Burton (31st), Leland Eggers (38th), Owen Anderson (40th), Grayson Henderson (51st), Ben Youngdale (63rd) and Jaxin Loughry (78th).
The Webster City girls placed third overall behind Osage and Belmond-Klemme, as Izzy Grossoehme was the race runner-up. The junior posted a time of 21:44, as Scarlett Byrnes of Osage was first in 19:38.
Mckenna Buakham finished 16th in 25:36, Julia Griep was 27th in 26:41 and Marlene Saavedra Mendoza was 29th in 26:59.
Rubi Andrade-Murillo (36th), Haedyn Soesbee (40th), Abby Peterson (46th), Jessica Utera (47th), Victorious Mirembe (52nd) and Izzy McNiel (56th) rounded out the runners.
The Webster City middle school boys won team gold behind a runner-up performance by Elias Brown. Kellen Walstrom was fifth, Kade Kruger sixth, Collin Wardell seventh and Jack Irving 10th.
For the girls, they were second overall as Lyla Brookshire was sixth, Quynn Pruismann seventh and Anika Wiesberg 12th.
