JEWELL — The South Hamilton football team dropped their district opener to South Central Calhoun here on Friday, 35-14.

An early deficit proved too much for the Hawks (0-4 overall, 0-1 in district) to overcome, as the Titans (2-2, 1-0) jumped out to a 21-0 halftime advantage.

Over the final two quarters, South Hamilton played South Central Calhoun even. Wyatt Gelder ran for 115 yards and both touchdowns.

Gelder averaged nearly six yards per rush, hitting paydirt on a long 47-yard burst. Maddux Becker added 45 yards rushing, but the Hawks were held to just 175 overall as a team.

Liam Ealy caught a 12-yard pass from quarterback Jose Babcock.

Brody Harris anchored the defense with 8.5 tackles, including six solos and one for loss. Gelder had eight tackles and Benjamin Swenson seven with one for a loss.

The Hawks hit the road next to take on East Sac County in Wall Lake Friday night at 7 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
