Hawks hosting SCC
JEWELL — The South Hamilton football team hopes the start of district play will help them turn a corner, as the Hawks entertain South Central Calhoun on Friday.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Mike Penning Athletic Complex and Taylor Field.
South Hamilton (0-3 overall, 0-0 in the district) has won at least five games each of the past three years, going 21-9 during that time.
Wyatt Gelder, a sophomore, has rushed for 382 yards and four touchdowns so far to lead the Hawks, who have 655 yards on the ground as a team. Garrett Johnson has 88 yards passing, as both Jose Babcock and Maddux Becker have over 80 yards rushing.
Gelder went over 100 yards in the loss to Southeast Valley last week, finishing with 141. Johnson accounted for the lone points with a rushing TD.
South Central Calhoun (1-2) earned a 20-14 win over Earlham in the opener, losing to Ridge View and IKM-Manning the last two weeks. Sophomore Cade Higgins has 247 yards passing, Cooper Nattress leads the rushing attack with 106 while Evan Myers has 70 yards receiving.
South Hamilton has lost six of the seven meetings vs. South Central Calhoun, but did earn a 62-8 victory the last time they met in 2022.
