Grossoehme places 16th for Lynx

Webster City's Izzy Grossoehme placed 16th in the purple division at the Lynx Invitational on Tuesday.

The Webster City cross country teams got their one opportunity to compete at home here Tuesday night as they hosted the Lynx Invitational.

In the boys division, Webster City placed sixth overall, with the girls finishing in ninth as a team.

Izzy Grossoehme was the highest individual finisher, placing 16th in a time of 22:17. Mckenna Buakham was 55th, Julia Griep placed 56th, Megan VanDeer was 59th and Marlene Saavedra Mendoza finished 76th overall.

“It was a good night for the Lynx at our home meet,” WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. “We saw a lot of improvements from both teams.

“There were a lot of quality teams in this meet and I thought we really competed well despite some of our runners being a little dinged up.”

For the boys, Justin Callahan was the top runner, taking 22nd in a time of 17:59.7. Jack Barner was 34th in 19:00.5 followed by Gabe Thumma in 40th, Aidan Wardell in 41st, Arlen Lake in 62nd, Kaleb Draeger in 71st and Kyzer Zinnel in 79th.

“Justin bounced back after a tough first meet and led our boys to many season-bests as well as personal-bests,” Turner said. “I thought we competed well as the adjustments that our athletes made from last week showed.”

Daniel Murillo-Delfin led the Webster City boys junior varsity, as he placed 30th overall. Tariq Burton was 33rd and Owen Anderson finished 58th. On the girls side, Rubi Andrade-Murillo was 25th, Abby Peterson placed 34th and Jessica Utera was 38th.

Next action for the Lynx will be when they head to Waverly-Shell Rock on Tuesday.

Starting at $3.46/week.
