Humboldt fights off Lynx in softball
The Webster City softball team dropped a tight 7-5 decision here Monday night to North Central Conference rival Humboldt in eight innings.
After taking an early 4-1 lead, the Lynx were unable to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard in the fifth and eighth innings.
Humboldt countered to grake a 5-4 advantage with a four-run fifth, but Webster City quickly responded in the bottom of the sixth to tie it.
In the eighth, the Wildcats got two runs and were able to hold the Lynx.
Jakaela Cherry and Breanna Bahrenfuss each drove in runs for Webster City. Morgan Tempel was 2-for-4. Cherry had two hits with a double, while recording four strikeouts inside the circle.
Cloe Savitski scored twice and had a stolen base.
The Lynx host Clarion-Goldfield/Dows on Wednesday night before closing out the week vs. Pocahontas Area on Thursday.
