Webster City girls in control, 5-0
HAMPTON — The Webster City girls soccer team scored a clean sheet here on Monday night, downing Hampton-Dumont/CAL, 5-0.
Sandra Fuentes-Cruz and Janey Putney both scored two goals each, as Fuentes-Cruz added an assist. Jayme Perez also had an assist for the Lynx, who improved to 4-5-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the North Central Conference).
“Janey immediately put one in the back of the net about 20 seconds into the second half and it was a shooting frenzy after that,” WCHS head coach Kristine Mason said. “Tons of shots on goal, converting five (after intermission). The girls came back into their possession-style game, with Jayme helping guide the attack and Heidi Mendoza creating a ton of chances for us on the wing.”
Webster City tallied 28 shots with 12 coming on goal for the match.
Kate Feltz saved all four shots she faced in net, as the Lynx won their third straight and recorded a second consecutive shutout. Webster City is now 9-2 vs. the Bulldogs, who have not scored a goal in the series over the last five matchups.
“We’re playing great soccer right now, and if we can stay consistent, we have a real chance to flip our record to a winning one in the next few games,” Mason said. “We got off to a rocky start in the first half and our team was frustrated with our 4-4-2 formation.
“I had us reset and moved us back into a 4-4-3 to get numbers up.”
Up next for the Lynx will be Belmond-Klemme at home on Thursday. The match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
