Webster City boys in silver slot at Boone

BOONE — The Webster City boys track team finished second at the Boone Invitational, winning four events.

The Lynx scored 109 team points, behind the host and champion Toreadors (167).

“We had some very good efforts in a very long meet,” said WCHS head coach Chad Hisler. “We competed very well despite unloading some guys who were running on tired legs after competing in our eighth meet in 25 days.”

Jayden Weinzetl was a double winner, capturing gold in the 100-meter dash (11.12) and the 200-meter dash (22.59). Jack Barner took first in the 3,200 (11:31.98), while Justin Callahan prevailed in the 400-meter hurdles (56.35).

Weinzetl, Kaleb Hansen, Daniel Murillo-Delfin and Callahan placed second in the distance medley relay, crossing the tape in 3:46.21.

“Weinzetl brought home (two golds) with solid times as he continues to have an impressive senior season,” Hisler said. “Justin ran a season-best time to win the 400.”

Carter Mickelson was runner up in the 1,600 (4:57.88). Beau Nohrenberg was third in the shot put (43-4), and Dane Hansen brought back bronze in the 400 (3:57.62). Gabe Thumma (5:02.63) was third in the 1,600.

Webster City’s 4×800 team of Thumma, Kaleb Draeger, Arien Lake and Ben Youngdale placed at 9:51.33. The 4×400 squad of Murillo-Delfin, Kaleb Hansen, Dane Hansen and Max McGilligan was third in a time of 3:49.47.

Webster City is back in action on Thursday at Clear Lake for the North Central Conference meet.
