South Hamilton in action at North Polk; heads to HOIAC meet next

The South Hamilton track and field teams competed here Monday night at the North Polk co-ed meet.

The Hawk boys finished fourth overall, while the girls were fifth. PCM won the boys team title and the host Comets claimed gold for the girls.

Kolby Hodnefield had a hand in all three winning performances for South Hamilton, as he was first in both the 200 and 400. Hodnefield ran the anchor on the winning sprint medley alongside Nick Severseike, Braden Young and Tanner Twedt.

Jesus Garcia took silver in the 3,200. The 4×200 and distance medley also placed second.

The 4×200 featured Severseike, Young, Twedt and Hodnefield while the distance medley was comprised of Wyatt Gelder, Carson Gibbs, Twedt and Severseike.

For the girls, Tessa Skarvedt was second in the shot put and fourth in the discus. Bianca Seanton (800), Kayley Zanker (3,000) and Isabel Swenson (high jump) all placed fourth.

South Hamilton was third in the 4×200 relay behind Sydnee Flaugh, Riah Van De Pol, Sara Scheller and Brooklyn Doolittle.

The Hawks next compete in the Heart of Iowa Conference meet. Action starts at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

One of the highlights of the night should be in the sprint events, where Nevada junior Connor Kunze is expected to square off with Hodnefield. Kunze sits first in the 100 and 200 with Hodnefield right behind.

Hodnefield is first in the 400 and also owns the sixth-fastest 800 time in the league. He is also part of the top 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and sprint medley relays.

Young is second in the long jump behind Kunze, Davien Henderson is fourth in the discus and Twedt fifth in the 100. Young, Twedt and Severseike are in the top-seeded relays, as the distance medley with Young, Gelder, Twedt and Severseike second.

For the girls, Tessa Skarvedt leads the conference in the shot put and is fifth in the discus. Stella Martensen is second in the high jump. Isabel Swenson sits third.

Sara Scheller is sixth in the 400 hurdles, Claire Hewitt sixth in the long jump and Bianca Seaton seventh in the 800. The South Hamilton 4×200 of Sydnee Flaugh, Riah Van De Pol, Scheller and Brooklyn Doolittle sits third.
