HAMPTON — The seventh-ranked (Class 2A) Webster City boys soccer team secured a key victory over Hampton-Dumont/CAL here Monday, 6-0.

The Lynx (10-0 overall, 9-0 in the North Central Conference) remained atop the league with the win over the Bulldogs (7-2-2, 5-2).

Eddy Fuentes-Cruz tallied a haul, scoring four goals for Webster City. He got them on the board in the 16th minute off an assist from Conner Peck, with the other three goals all coming in the second half.

Israel Torres and Jaime Martinez Andrial each added goals, while David Villelas tallied with two assists. Abisai Ramirez-Carmona also recorded an assist.

Webster City attempted 24 shots, 15 on goal and 10 corner kicks compared to 10 shots with five on goal and two corners for Hampton-Dumont/CAL.

“It was a frustrating first half, especially the first 10 minutes,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “We played with very little energy coming off the weekend. We had a lot of chances and just couldn’t connect. Silas Buseman is a great center back.

“We woke up a little bit after that first 40 and absolutely finished the majority of our quality chances. The defense of Henry, Abisai, JR (Francisco), Dany and Grayson allowed Edwin to keep a clean sheet.”

The Lynx return to the pitch on Thursday at Belmond-Klemme.

Starting at $3.46/week.
