Webster City falls in regional action

BOONE — The Webster City girls tennis team saw their season come to an end here at regionals.

Boone claimed wins in the first five singles matches, taking the dual to advance where they would fall to Carroll Kuemper in a Class 2A regional semifinal.

“Hats off to Boone as they are a good team and they played extremely well today,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “We knew going in we’d probably need them to help us out a little bit, and they were locked in from the start.

“We felt going in if we could get it to doubles we’d have the advantage in the doubles matches, based on what we had seen earlier in our dual and at regionals last Monday. We were hoping to squeeze out at least two singles wins, if not three, but like I said, Boone played very well.

Kinzey Koestner, Cyra Christensen and Alivia Burns each won three games in their matches vs. the Toreadors.

Morgan Hackbarth was tied with Juliana Lutz in the second set, 3-3, when the match was stopped with the dual outcome having been decided.

“At the same time, I thought we did some really good things, thought we played some good points, they were just a little more consistent, just a little more of a veteran team, and it showed,” Fisher said. “But don’t let this take away from what these girls have accomplished this season. They improved so much over the season and were an absolutely wonderful group of girls to work with.

“Very proud to be associated with this group of girls and of all the work they have put in.”

The Lynx graduate seniors Koestner and Koda Koster.
