THURSDAY’S DIAMOND BRIEFS: WCHS LYNX

LYNX BASEBALL THUMPS POKY: The Webster City baseball team wrapped up a 4-0 week last night with an 11-1 rout of Pocahontas Area in Pocahontas.

The Lynx (11-1), winners of five straight, put two runs on the board in the first inning and never looked back. They put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.

CJ Hisler roped a pair of ground-rule doubles and drove in three runs. He plated one in the first inning and two more in the sixth.

Devon Stoakes laced an RBI single in the first, a two-RBI single in the sixth and added a fourth RBI on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Sean Carver had a single and two RBIs. Ty McKinney also had a base hit and RBI.

Zach Dyvig went the distance on the mound to secure the win. He allowed just four hits.

STOAKES, WCHS SOFTBALL BOMB BULLDOGS: Kelly Stoakes went 4 for 5 with a three-run home run and six RBIs to power the Webster City softball team to a 14-4, 5-inning North Central Conference rout over Hampton-Dumont/CAL last night at Lynx Field.

Stoakes’ second-inning bomb keyed a four-run frame and gave the Lynx (9-3, 5-1 NCC) a 6-0 lead.

HDC (5-5, 4-3 NCC) closed to within 6-4, but WCHS plated four more runs in the fourth and fifth to end it. Fittingly, it was Stoakes who roped the final RBI single.

The Lynx finished with a season-high 19 hits. Trinity Griffith produced three, including a double. Leah Kasch, Livia Kasch, Delainey Bargfrede, Adeline Tesdahl and Bonnie Nohrenberg all finished with two. Bargfrede drove in two runs, and Jenna Miller added a double.

Leah Kasch recorded an inside-the-park home run in the second inning.
