BELMOND — Lane Swenson checked one goal off here Tuesday night, as he joined an elite group of the best wrestlers to ever step onto the mat for South Hamilton.

The Hawks’ third-ranked (Class 1A) 170-pounder reached 100 career victories and improved to 22-0 on the season with a pair of wins in duals against Belmond-Klemme and Forest City.

Swenson reached triple digits against Belmond-Klemme’s Hayden Pals, a bout that lasted just 1:40. Career victory No. 101 came later against Forest City’s Blake Skjeie, who lasted just 1:06 before Swenson showed him the lights.

Swenson has 16 pins on the season and only two of his 18 contested matches have gone six minutes.

“I think that’s just a testament to how hard Lane’s worked over these last four years,” South Hamilton head coach Dan Brodie said of Swenson’s milestone achievement. “It’s a great accomplishment, but it’s only the first in a series of goals that he has for this season. We’re going to continue to push forward and try to achieve some loftier heights.”

South Hamilton whipped Belmond-Klemme, 48-18, but fell in a big hole early and couldn’t climb all of the way out in a 42-36 loss to Forest City.

Joining Swenson with 2-0 marks on the night were Holden Klein (106), Keyton Remsburg (113), Brent Greenfield (182), Elijah Balderas (195/220) and Colton Willis (285).

Greenfield, who battles Swenson every day in practice, pushed his team-high pin total to 19 with two more. He’s now 21-2 on the season.

“He’s put in the hard work, he’s put in the mental side of things and he’s really taken into learning in practice,” Brodie said of Greenfield. “That’s translated into wins on the mat for him.”

Forest City rolled out to a 36-0 lead on South Hamilton before Swenson put an end to the run.

The dual essentially came down to a ranked match-up at 195, as the Indians’ third-ranked (2A) Reese Moore came out on top over fourth-ranked Trevor Thompson. They were tied at two in the second period when Thompson rolled his ankle fending off a shot, and Moore seized on the opportunity.

“That was tough because Trevor really wanted that match,” Brodie said. “Unfortunately, Trevor sprained his ankle and fell into a compromising position, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes.”
