HEINS, HAWKS 2ND AT HOME: Wyatt Heins placed second on the individual leaderboard and the South Hamilton boys’ golf team sat in the runner-up position at its own Hawk Invite at the Jewell Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

The Hawks shot a 348 to trail champion Gilbert (343) by five shots.

Heins’ round of 80 trailed only Gilbert’s Bryce Malchow, who posted a 77.

Trevor Lammers (83) was fourth for South Hamilton. Teagan Risetter (90) and Adam Titus (95) added counting scores.

DINSDALE WINS FOR LYNX GIRLS TENNIS: McKenna Dinsdale earned the first varsity singles win of her career for Webster City in an 8-1 loss to St. Edmond Thursday at the WCHS courts in Webster City.

Dinsdale opened up an early lead and then held on to beat Jillian Cosgrove, 10-8, in the No. 3 position.

“I thought McKenna really battled,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “She played really well getting out to a big lead and showed some grit to hang on.”

Makaylee Draeger also played well in a 10-6 loss to the Gaels’ Maggie Lennon in the No. 6 singles bout.

GAELS BLANK LYNX BOYS ON COURTS: St. Edmond won several tight matches and pulled away in others to hand Webster City a 9-0 loss in a boys’ tennis dual on Thursday in Fort Dodge.

Heath Patterson and Chase Black both had chances to win for WCHS before they suffered matching 10-8 losses in singles play. George Vila and Seth Nelson both fell 10-5.

Patterson and Vila teamed up to contend in doubles before a 10-6 setback.

“It was a rough start for some and they turned it around,” WCHS head coach Michael Ross said. “It’s putting a complete game together that is hurting us.”
