3 Hawks reach finals, take silver at tourney

POCAHONTAS — South Hamilton put three wrestlers in the finals and placed fourth in the team standings at Saturday’s Lynn Moody Invite.

Justin Wilson (126 pounds), Landon Stolee (170) and Nathan Wilson (182) all reached the championship round to lead the Hawks to 1131⁄2 points in the field of seven teams. GT/RA buried the field with 2571⁄2 points, while Alta-Aurelia was second with 140. Pocahontas Area finished in third with 133.

Justin Wilson, Stolee and Nathan Wilson all received quarterfinal-round byes and then navigated their way through the semifinals. Justin Wilson pulled out a 7-5 decision over West Bend-Mallard’s Joe Mader, Stolee won a narrow 8-6 decision over Humboldt’s Braxden Scott, and Nathan Wilson rolled by Alta-Aurelia’s Brock Mier, 11-1.

Stolee narrowly missed winning his first invite gold medal, as he dropped a 5-4 bout to GT/RA’s Tanner Murray.

Trevor Thompson (195) and Colton Willis (220) both rebounded from earlier setbacks to place third for South Hamilton. Zach Larson (285) was fourth, while Alan Gandara (120), Jose Galdeano (132) and Brent Greenfield (152) all placed fifth.

South Hamilton will travel to Manson on Saturday for a Class 1A sectional tournament that is scheduled to begin at noon. The first- and second-place finishers at each weight will advance to the district tournament hosted by Lake Mills on Saturday, Feb. 9.
