WEBSTER CITY — It was just 19 months ago that Webster City native Sunil Hanoman donned the familiar purple and gold and tackled the streets of Boston along with thousands of other avid runners.

It was a long and grueling journey, one that in the moments following the race he thought he’d never tackle again.

But never say never.

Hanoman, now a resident of Carol Stream, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, jumped into his replica Webster City Lynx uniform to compete in the New York City Marathon this past Sunday along with 50,642 other runners.

Hanoman completed the 26.2-mile trek in 3 hours, 3 minutes, 8 seconds and placed a quite respectable 1,279th overall. He was 216th among his age group.

Hanoman’s first national experience at the Boston Marathon in April of 2016 ended with a 5,916th-place finish in 3:23:50.

Starting at $3.46/week.
