Comets hand Hawks a 10-run thumping

The Daily Freeman-Journal

ALLEMAN – Turn the page and quickly.

That was what the South Hamilton softball team hoped to do following Wednesday’s forgetful 10-0, 6-inning Heart of Iowa Conference loss to rival North Polk.

The flat performance on the part of the Hawks (16-11, 9-6 HOIC) featured just three hits and five defensive miscues. North Polk (18-11, 9-6 HOIC) took advantage of the charity and also belted 14 hits off South Hamilton freshman pitcher Taylor Volkmann.

Audrey Ley lashed two doubles, while Rebecca Rimathe, Carolyn Steffen and Maddy Hill all had one for the Comets. Steffen and Trisha Sporra both drove in two runs.

North Polk moved ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning and then scored, two, two and five runs over its next three at bats.

Alyssa Hegland, Chloe Barkema and Lily Skartvedt accounted for the three South Hamilton hits. Volkmann struck out six in the circle.

The Hawks wrapped up their regular season against Nevada last night.
