Landowners should not be intimidated by Summit’s letter

To the editor: (In June), Summit Carbon Solutions received a conditional permit from the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) to construct a 680-mile CO2 pipeline across Iowa. The proposed pipeline, named the Midwest Carbon Express (MCE) will carry pressurized CO2 from ethanol plants across five Midwestern states to North Dakota where it will be permanently sequestered underground. The investment company will then earn billions of dollars annually in 45Q carbon tax credits. To the editor: Arts R Alive sponsored a wonderful event at West Twin Park last Thursday evening. The citizens who work hard to promote and realize that organization’s agenda are to be commended. They managed to provide for the public a friendly gathering of adults and children, light refreshments, live music by Jive for Five, and an ongoing commitment to the enrichment of public life and community-building. Who will put up these displays of our freedom in the future?

To the editor: My husband, granddaughter and I had the privilege to help take down the majestic display of flags in Graceland Cemetery last week. As we took a break, we asked if the volunteers were vets, and were told nearly all were Vietnam vets. These Vietnam Vets are supporting and honoring the WWII heroes that came before them by setting up/tearing down the flags, (which, btw, is an arduous task, even for 20 or so of us.)
