LIONEL MCGUIRE

Lionel McGuire, 87, of Webster City, died on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at his son’s home surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.

Lionel Elmer McGuire, son of Lionel and Silvia (Porter) McGuire, was born on October 1, 1933 in Fort Dodge. He attended school until 8th grade when he quit to care for his siblings. On November 21, 1955 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Alice Phillips. To this union four children were born. The family moved from California to Iowa. Lionel started his own businesses in Webster City that included many different services such as bicycle sales and maintenance, janitorial services, and lawn care. He spent many years working for the Freeman Journal. Lionel was a jack of all trades, a skill passed on to his children and grandchildren. Lionel was a family man and loved his family unconditionally. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. He was affectionately called Grandpa “Lion”

He is survived by his wife Alice; daughters, Brenda Peter of California, Cathy McGuire of Webster City; son, David (Shelia) McGuire of Webster City; grandchildren, Lori Archer, Saundra McGuire-Olmstead, Megan Peek, Josh McGuire, Zack McGuire, Dustin Spellmeyer,Daniel Peter; great-grandchildren, Calysta, Xayden, Josie, David, Jaelyn, Jacelyn, Mackenzie, James, Zackery Jr., Brianna, Kaleb, Landon, Clemintine and one on the way, brother, Millard McGuire, as well many family and friends.

Lionel was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debbie Spellmeyer and son in-law, Dave Peter and several siblings.

He was an active member of Anchor Point Church in Webster City.
