DSAOC Cake Auction begins March 26

The annual Cake Auction of the Domestic and Sexual Assault Outreach Center — DSAOC— is underway, but more donations are still being sought. The event, which has now occurred for 29 years, is the largest fundraiser for the organization. When COVID-19 hit in 2020, the event went online, and has stayed an online auction since then. Three different programs come under the DSAOC umbrella that benefit from the auction. The shelter located in Fort Dodge, which serves 20 counties in central Iowa, is the most visible. Hamilton County Cattlemen Association dinner will be held on March 9. The Hamilton County Cattlemen Association will host the 2026 annual Banquet in the show arena at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The Hamilton County Fairgrounds are located at 1800 Bluff St. in Webster City. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. for the social, 6 p.m. for dinner, with an auction to follow. ELLSWORTH — Two fire departments responded to the barn fire located just north of Ellsworth, near Interstate 35 on Saturday afternoon. The Ellsworth Fire Department responded to the fire quickly, with four vehicles and 10 people from the department. They were followed shortly by the Jewell Fire Department with another 10 fire fighters and three more fire vehicles. There was nothing they could do. The Webster City High School Variety Show will be this weekend. Tickets for the Friday and Saturday night performances are available now. The Variety Show 2026: A Night At The Movies will open on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Prem Sahai Auditorium. There will be a second show on Saturday night. WCHS students go to speech contest, compete again this weekend

The Webster City High School sent three entries to the High School district speech competition in Mason City at the John Adams Middle School. Two of these entries qualified for state competition at Waterloo West High School. The entries were from senior Brooklyn Neddemeyer, who submitted a short film entry called “The Oakley Five.” It was a found footage style horror film which she wrote, starred in, directed and cast.
