Brew Oil deal confirmed; electric rates increase 5% April 1

The City Council of Webster City approved Monday night a development agreement with Brew Oil of Storm Lake to extensively renovate the former Doc’s Stop convenience store. The agreement puts in writing a number of tenets guiding the $5.5 million project. Webster City will put in as much as $1.2 million in tax increment financing (TIF) as an incentive. TIF uses projected gains in taxable value of a defined area to pay for infrastructure improvements. Free business training next week

On March 24 and April 23, the Kendall Young Library and the Webster City Chamber of Commerce will team up to provide training to the Locable platform which will provide free tools to promote businesses. Hamilton County public hearing for maximum tax levy set for 6 p.m. on March 25

The public hearing for the Hamilton County maximum levy is an evening meeting, which will be at 6 p.m. on March 25. After that first hearing, there will also be a hearing for the assessor’s budget and levy. Once the proposed property tax levy is published for the March 25 hearing, the levy amount cannot be increased; it can only be lowered from that point forward. Budgets for the county cannot be finalized prior to this public hearing. Other entities may approve their budgets during their public hearings.

Webster City community blood drive is Thursday

The next community blood drive will be held from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Van Diest Medical Center Clinic board room, 2350 Hospital Drive.
