Chelesvig honored for 45 years at Iowa Central

Thomas O. Chelesvig first took office as a member of the Iowa Central Community College Board of Trustees in 1981. He is still a trustee helping to guide the college 45 years later. His remarkable tenure was recognized recently by Community Colleges for Iowa. The Webster City man was presented an award during the group’s Summer Trustees Conference held at Marshalltown Community College. Fair week begins next Tuesday with the Hamilton County Fair kicking off the activities on Tuesday with the Hamilton County Fair parade starting at 5:30 p.m. The Hamilton County Fair Foundation meal and beer garden will be held at the fairgrounds at the end of the parade. Iowa corn silking jumps ahead following hot, dry week

After several weeks trailing last year’s pace and the five-year average, corn development in Iowa has jumped ahead according to the latest crop progress and condition report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. According to the report, 38% of Iowa corn acres were silking as of the July 6-July 12 reporting period, which is 9 percentage points ahead of the five-year average pace and 5 percentage points ahead of 2025’s crop.
