Hamilton County Extension offering virtual bee keeping course

The Iowa State University Extension office that serves Hamilton County is offering a beginners class on bee keeping. Registration for the class is currently open, and registering for the classes can be done by calling the office in Webster City at 515-832-9597, online or by email. This virtual course will begin on Feb. 6, with five weekly training sessions from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $40 for a book and other class materials. Free seed event at Kendall Young Library meets mission of Nine Square Feet

Kendall Young Library is giving away seeds, provided by another Iowa non-profit organization. Next Saturday, January 31, the library will have individually packaged seeds for new gardeners and experienced gardeners, to plant and start a garden. They are not just any seeds, they are seeds from an organization called Nine Square Feet, based out of West Des Moines. Their mission is to share seeds, plants and food in the Des Moines metro area and central Iowa. They are sending out free seeds to 55 libraries across the state of Iowa this year. Webster City Airport Commission meets Tuesday

The Webster City Airport Commission will meet on Tuesday. The meeting will be held at City Hall starting at 5 p.m. Reports will be given by the airport manager, the fuel pumped report, monthly hangar report and engineer report. They will be acting on a motion confirming an email to the FAA regarding two projects. They will also be considering the 2026-2027 budget. This meeting is open to the public, and comments can be made during the public comment period at the beginning of the meeting, but no action can happen at the meeting unless in an extreme emergency.

Webster City High School Winterfest Court announced

The Winterfest coronation for 2026 King and Queen will be held on Thursday, at 2:15 p.m. at the Prem Sahai Auditorium at the Webster City High School Five young ladies make up the Queens Court. They are Jakaela Cherry, Fate Feltz, Kaylee Kohl, Heidi Mendoza and Addelyn Pruismann. Five young men make up the Kings Court. They are Jack Barner, Justin Callahan, Braylon Dyvig, Jaxon Griffith and Cole Nohrenberg. The Winterfest dance will be next Saturday evening, January 31 from 8 to 11 p.m.

Gun Show begins today through Sunday

The Hamilton County Fairgrounds will be the site for a gun show this weekend. The event, sponsored by Midwest Event is located at 1200 Bluff St., in the Ed Prince building and the Show Arena. The cost is $10 per day, or a $14 weekend pass. There is a discount admission for military, vets and first responders with ID.
