Put on your running shoes and join the fun on Friday morning for the Firecracker 5K in Webster City.

Dee Brown, head coach for the cross country team for Iowa Central Community College, coordinates the event.

“Last year we had 170 participants,” Brown said. “Lots of people like to sign up the day of the event.

“You never know who will show up. We have lots of families participate.”

Sponsors are First State Bank and Town & Country Insurance.

The 5K Road Race-Walk begins at 8 a.m. with the Kids Fun Run (ages 9 and under) starting at 9:30 a.m. The registration fee for adults is $25 (10 and older) and $10 for kids with a t-shirt, or free for participating without a t-shirt.

Registration for the events can be done the morning of the run, starting at 6:30 a.m. until 7:45 a.m. or online at http://www.rymoe.com/firecracker5k/docs/entryForm.pdf.

The race starts and finishes at Twin Parks at 1100 Seneca Street in Webster City.

Race packets and registration forms will be available at the shelter house in West Twin Park and can be done on the day of the event.

The course consists of routes on paved roads and park trails, which is mostly flat, with one hill and one water stop.
