T-shirts sought for service project

Tees to be repurposed as totes for food bank

First Congregational UCC in Webster City is seeking donations of good used t-shirts for a project. The shirts will be used for a service project to make tote bags.

The Food Bank of Iowa is asking people to make shopping bags from t-shirts. The tote bag will need to hold up to 30 pounds of cans, bags of rice or beans, potatoes and other items. Organizers said worn out shirts, tees with holes or that are a thin or gauzy texture will not work.

For more information, contact Sherry Leksell at mrsleksell@gmail.com. Leksell will take donations to a group of people who will sew the bags and will then take the bags to All Cultures Equal or the Food Bank of Iowa.

A wooden box is set up for donations of shirts outside of the church at 1000 Willson Ave., Webster City.
