Man charged with attempted murder in stabbing

A Webster City man has been charged with attempted murder and willful injury, following a stabbing incident in Webster City early Thursday morning.
Webster City police responded to the call at 5:16 a.m. near 632 Webster St. Ana Puente-Gomez, 43, was transported to Van Diest Medical Center and was later transferred to a trauma center for treatment of multiple stab wounds. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Jeremias Lopez-Barrera, 64, was located near the scene. He was transported to the Hamilton County Jail and was charged with attempted murder. Attempted murder is a Class B Felony.
He was also charged with willful injury for allegedly causing an injury to Ivan Puente-Gomez, 21, who had reportedly intervened in the attack to protect Ana Puente-Gomez. Willful injury is a Class C Felony. Ivan Puente-Gomez did not require medical treatment for his injury, according to police reports.
Ana Puente-Gomez and Jeremias Lopez-Barrera are acquainted, police officials said. The knife used in the attack was found and collected for evidence.
