Webster City High School is working to provide a memorable experience to the Class of 2021 during what has been an unusual and highly challenging school year.

Graduation week for seniors will kick off with final exams on May 17-18. The last day of classes will be Wednesday, May 19, when students will return books, iPads, chargers and cords, and complete their senior check-out forms.

Later that day, at 6 p.m., WCHS will hold its annual awards ceremony to celebrate the

achievements of the Class of 2021. Attendance at this event will be limited to immediate

households and grandparents. Students receiving scholarships and awards will be recognized

at the ceremony, which will take place in the Competition Gym. All attendees will be required to

wear masks and socially distance.

On Thursday, May 20, seniors will take part in community service projects. They will meet in the Competition Gym in the morning before breaking out in groups of six to 12 to participate in community service projects throughout the community. Mask wearing and social distancing will be practiced at all locations. Hand sanitizer or other appropriate mitigation supplies will also be provided.

Rehearsal for graduation will be held Friday morning, May 21, in the Competition Gym. Seniors will take their composite photo for the yearbook and then practice for Sunday’s commencement ceremony. Following rehearsal, students will take part in the Senior Walk, traveling to Webster City Middle School, Sunset Heights, Pleasant View, Northeast Hamilton and Stratford Elementary Schools. Due to the pandemic, seniors will walk outside of each building.

On Sunday, May 23, at 2 p.m., WCHS will hold commencement for graduating seniors. To provide for social distancing, each senior will receive eight tickets to give to their family

members and friends. All guests will be required to wear masks and remain socially distanced

throughout the ceremony.

Seats at the event will be available on a first come, first served basis. Hand sanitizer will be available outside of the Competition Gym before and after the ceremony.

“Our seniors have been through a lot in their final school year as Lynx, and we are incredibly proud of them for their perseverance while facing some very difficult circumstances,” said Dan Johnson, WCHS Principal. “While our traditions and events may look a little different this year, we are excited to celebrate the Class of 2021 and congratulate them for their achievements and success.”
