Graduation rescheduled for June 28

Webster City High School has scheduled a tentative graduation ceremony make-up date for Sunday, June 28 at 2 p.m.

The COVID-19 pandemic and school closures across Iowa have led to the school postponing the Class of 2020 commencement, originally scheduled for May 17. Over the past few weeks, school staff have been seeking feedback from senior students, who have expressed a preference for holding a traditional in-person ceremony later this summer.

For now, the school has scheduled a tentative date of Sunday, June 28. If that date is not possible due to social distancing guidelines, a back-up date has been scheduled for Sunday, July 26. The ceremony would be held in the WCHS gymnasium.

In addition, the high school will record a Virtual Senior Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 19. The video will be posted and shared on the WCTV YouTube channel and via school and district social media platforms.

“While this spring has presented us with many unexpected challenges, we hope to be able to see our seniors and send them off with an in-person ceremony this summer,” said Dan Johnson, WCHS principal. “We would like to once again thank our students, families and staff for their patience and understanding as we have dealt with the unprecedented situation that has arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

WCHS administration will provide senior students and their families with more information on thestatus of the June 28 event in the weeks to come.
