Southfield earns five-star ranking

For the first time in Southfield Wellness Community history, the Webster City care center owned and operated by ABCM Corporation, has achieved the coveted Five Star National Nursing Home Ranking. Every care center in the United States is evaluated by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The CMS and individual states oversee the quality of long-term care. Homes are evaluated on quality measures, staffing and survey results done unexpectedly each year by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals.

Southfield Marketing Coordinator Marilyn Middleton stated that all care centers are ranked on a 1 through 5 star ranking with 5 stars as the goal. Middleton stated that anyone wanting to know the ranking of any home in the country can go to the medicare.gov website and search Nursing Home Compare by plugging in a zip code or town name. Usually several homes in the area will surface. Middleton said the information provides research-based, unbiased information that helps consumers as they shop for nursing home services. As of July 2014, ABCM Corporation owns 30 homes in Iowa and 76 percent have a 4 or 5 star rating.

“No care center is perfect, but the staff at Southfield try very hard to follow recommended health and safety practices in a friendly, caring manner,” stated Amy McCollough, Southfield Director of Nursing.

“Choosing a care center is a monumental decision for most families and we are honored for the families that have put their trust in us,” stated Southfield Administrator John Boughton. “We are proud to be a part of the ABCM Corporation because of their commitment for excellence.”
