New Extension field agronomist is named

AMES – Angela Rieck-Hinz is the new extension field agronomist for north central Iowa. She brings expertise in crop production and protection to this position, which serves a nine-county area. Farmers, agribusiness and ag partners have worked with Rieck-Hinz in her previous Iowa State University Extension and Outreach position as coordinator for the Manure Applicator Certification Program the past 16 years.

Rieck-Hinz has a bachelor’s degree in crop and soil science from University of Wisconsin – Platteville and a master’s degree in soil fertility from Iowa State University. In addition to farmers and agribusiness personnel, she frequently works with crop consultants, watershed coordinators, Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and Natural Resources Conservation Service staff.

As a member of the ISU Extension and Outreach crop production team, her vast experiences support the integrated cropping systems approach of the team. In her new position, she will continue responsibilities for the Iowa Manure Management Action Group Web page and newsletter.

“I look forward to assisting farmers with crop production and protection concerns and challenges. So far, this year has been a challenge with cool, wet soils early and now excess moisture delaying application of post-applied herbicides,” she said.

Rieck-Hinz can be reached by email at amrieck@iastate.edu or by phone at (515)532-3453 (office) or (515)231-2830 (cell).
