The Webster and Hamilton County Conservation Boards will hold a Fireside Chat focusing on flint knapping tonight. This will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Camp WaNoKi, located at 2401 WaNoKi Camp Road in Fort Dodge. Flint knapping is the process of creating stone tools by striking and shaping flint. The Fly High Memorial Car/Truck Show and Cruise will be held Saturday. The event is being organized at the Appliance Plus parking lot at 200 Red Bull Division Drive. The car/truck show starts at 11 a.m. until the cruise begins at 5 p.m. Awards for the various categories will be given at 4 p.m. The cost is a freewill donation. Beginning classes for individuals wanting to learn Spanish and English will begin Monday and Tuesday nights next week. The classes begin at 6:30 p.m. and wrap up at about 8 p.m. each day. The classes are sponsored by ACE — All Cultures Equal — and will be taught at their offices located at 637 Second Street. Monday classes are for beginners, Tuesday nights are for more advanced beginners. The classes will be held from Sept. 8 until Nov. 25. The classes are hosted by ACE, and sponsored in part by an Enhance Hamilton County grant.
The Asbury Learning Center of the Asbury United Methodist Church is accepting applications for the Asbury Learning Center tutoring program. Tutoring will occur in the church in the educational wing. Tutoring is one-on-one. This is for students K-4 who need extra assistance. Applications are available through the Webster City Community School offices, or through the Asbury United Methodist Church office. The Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting for Monika Arends, APK Insurance, located at 1527 Superior Street at noon. The ribbon cutting is in celebration of the Arends’ new office, located in Suite D in the lower level of the Heffernan Chiropractic building. Arends has been in the health insurance industry since 2015, bringing a decade of experience to her work. She has been working out of offices in both Fort Dodge and Des Moines.
