Cyclone men clear the century mark

AMES (AP) — Tamin Lipsey had 19 points and a school-record eight steals, Curtis Jones had 22 points off the bench, and Iowa State routed Prairie View A&M 107-56 on Sunday.

Keshon Gilbert had 22 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. Milan Momcilovic had 15 points and eight rebounds for Iowa State (8-2). Jones made six of eight 3-pointers.

An 18-0 run early in the second half put the Cyclones in complete control, 78-41. They made eight of their first 10 shots in the period and finished the half at 66.7% and 60.8% for the game. Iowa State outscored Prairie View 55-21 in the second half.

It was no contest on the boards, as well. Iowa State outrebounded Prairie View 43-22 and the Cyclones grabbed more of their own misses than the Panthers did; meaning Iowa State had 16 offensive rebounds to 11 defensive boards for Prairie View.

Iowa State made 36 of 48 free throws compared to 11 of 13 for the Panthers, who did not attempt a free throw in the second half.

Prairie View (4-4) was led by Charles Lane Jr., who scored 13 points.

Led by Jones, who scored 14 points and was perfect in four 3-point tries, the Cyclones shot 56.7% in the first half and scored 52 points. They were 7-for-10 from distance and made 15 of 18 free throws.

After scoring 99 and 90 points in their previous two games, the Cyclones reached 100 points for the second time this season.

Iowa State continues a run of five consecutive nonconference home games when Florida A&M visits on Sunday.

Prairie View A&M plays at Northern Iowa on Tuesday.
